RESEARCH

My research interests are broadly focused on interpersonal relationships and cultural diversity. Within interpersonal relationships, I am specifically interested in chemistry (i.e., relationship initiation) in friendships and romantic relationships, the impact of being in love on other domains (e.g., academics, athletics, creativity), and catfishing (online romantic deception). I have other lines of work in the areas of infidelity, couple rituals, and the meaning of marriage. In terms of cultural diversity, I am interested in racism and health. I have examined the Latino paradox, which is that Latinos fare better than European Americans in terms of health outcomes, despite being over-represented among low income groups. I also have ongoing research in South Africa examining the impact of racism on health.
